Eyebrow Rehab

I’m going cold turkey, locking up the tweezers and have promised brow guru Kristie Streicher that I will not pluck, thread or wax for the next four weeks.

Operating out of her new Beauty Bar in the Warren-Tricomi salon in West Hollywood, Kristie is helping Angelenos break the tweezing habit and grow back those overplucked brows, easing the pain with an eyebrow pencil, a tube of Revitalash and gentle words of encouragement.

“People think their brows will never grow back but they are not waiting out the full growing cycle,” she explains, “I promise, if you can just make it through the first month without plucking you will get great low maintenance brows that will also make you look years younger.”

Kristie, whose clients include Julia Roberts, Rachel Weisz and Molly Sims, certainly has a great pair of her own and says women’s biggest problem is their magnifying mirror….so I have also locked that up.

In four weeks time Kristie has promised to reshape my brows to perfection and is also scarily planning to tint them lighter claiming they are too dark and severe for my face. She has reassured me however that she specializes in brow tinting to complement the face and I will not end with an auburn Scouse brow.

Skincare for High Fliers

BRAD Skincare was initially developed exclusively for the jet set: namely the clientele of private charter jets who needed seriously high-tech products to combat exposure to fluctuating cabin pressure, contaminated air, extreme altitude and UV levels all while restoring a dewy glow to their skin as they hopped from London to Davos to Shanghai and back to New York in as many days. Now we mere commercial airline users can also step off the most arduous long-haul flight with a first-class complexion.

Los Angeles based Brad Hunter, who trained at Lancome and La Prairie, has developed a line of super-charged products to reverse extreme dehydration and low oxygen levels. “My focus is on skin regeneration,” he explains. “These products rebuild the internal structure to virtually create new skin by re-activating the collagen and elastin networks.”

Hunter says the secret is in the mix of bio-fermented acids, peptides, sea minerals, colloidal silver and antioxidants all packaged in a special violet Miron glass that protects and stimulates the active ingredients.

At his West Hollywood studio, open by appointment, clients can now sample the healing cleansers, problem-solving elixirs, and exfoliating gels with a fifteen-minute basic peel or pore minimizer, an ultraglow hydration session or a signature facial treatment that deliver a fresh and bright complexion no matter how many airmiles you racked up to get there.

The Local

Abbot Kinney is one of my favorite streets in LA: great shops, great restaurants, great eye-candy but one thing it has been oddly lacking is a smoothie/juice bar.

Local 1205 has ticked that box.

Health nuts will love the power smoothies with ingredients like maca, coconut water and hemp milk that are made to order, and juices including watermelon, carrot and greens that are ready to go and packaged in super-cute glass jars.

‘Smoothies and green juices are all well and good’, you say, ‘but what about a place to buy something yummy to eat with the great wine I have just picked up at Elvino? That’s what Abbot Kinney is missing.’

Local 2105 ticks that box too. Step inside and you will find a charcuterie and cheese counter, fresh bread and even flowers for that last minute hostess gift.

‘The line at Gjelina to go is a joke!’ I hear another one of you whine, ‘All I want is some lunch.’ Well, guess what? Quit complaining and park it on the patio with a Dungeness Crab Louie or an open-face soppressata sandwich with hot cherry peppers).

What else? Cheese cave?  Tick. Raw bar? Tick. Brazilian pizza oven? Tick.

‘Jeez! Who owns this place?’  you ask, astonished. ‘How did they know Abbot Kinney was missing all this stuff?’

Craig Weiss, the owner of adjoining The Otherroom, that’s who. He knows his stuff and Local 1205 is sure to become a very handy local spot.
